IBSA @ Prayer: A Public Blessing

A FINAL BLESSING for a GRADUATION CEREMONY

Adapted for the Graduation Ceremony, May 29, 2009 the graduating class of Clinical Pastoral Education spring class Feb 2nd, 2009 until May 29th, 2009 by Chaplain Lee Gatzke (Temple Baptist Church, South Chicago Heights, IL)

What is a final blessing? ... the final blessing is commonly referred to as a Benediction.

  • A benediction is an authoritative announcement of divine blessing found thru out the Bible.
  • It represents a joyful, unifying call, to faith, based on the ensured divine principle – GOD -
  • A benediction is a short concise statement given thru out the Bible, in the form of a petition
  • It gives an assurance, a promise, based on a principle. It voices an image of comfort, from words of assurance.
  • The word benediction means to produce good thoughts. What makes good thoughts good - is because they are base on biblical truths, inspired by GOD.
  • Good is the unavoidable result of certainty and righteousness of truth,
  • The truth being GOD who is all internally GOOD.

THE BENEDICTION - Is found in, Numbers Chapter 6, verses 24 thru 26 (King James Version)

SO UNTIL WE CAN MEET AGAIN

MAY THE LORD BLESS YOU AND KEEP YOU

This means: May the kindnesses of God precede you, and walk beside you to comfort you?

THE LORD, MAKE HIS FACE TO SHINE UPON YOU AND BE GRACIOUS TO YOU.

This means: May the wisdom of God be with you and walk above you to watch over you.

THE LORD LIFT UP HIS COUNTENANCE UPON YOU AND GIVE YOU PEACE

This means: May the light of GOD follows you, and walk before you to show the way, forever and ever.

- AMEN -
