SBC Prayer Prof Reports from National Prayer Committee Meetings

I just returned from the semi-annual meeting of America’s National Prayer Committee. What a great group of cross-denominational folks. I’m one of only a few Southern Baptists on the committee of approximately 100 and possibly the only one from the academic world. I love being with them. No one cares who I am or what I am. I’m just Dan. In one of the many prayer times, someone prayed the prayer of Jehoshaphat (could this be a new book title?) – “Lord, we don’t know what to do, but our eyes are on You” (II Chronicles 20:12). How many times have I felt this way, not knowing exactly what to do, yet trusting with all my being on God’s directions? What an encouragement on days when confusion or uncertainty reigns. Jehoshaphat was troubled because a “great multitude” of the enemy was coming against him. Did God answer the prayer? Sure did! God sent Jahaziel to say, “Do not be afraid or dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s” (II Chronicles 20:15). Do you face a multitude of concerns this week? How about joining me in praying the prayer of Jehoshaphat?

IBSA @ Prayer ~ Chaplain's Request

On Jan 23, 2008 10:18 PM, Chaplain Ric Worshill wrote:

Shalom Y’all. “The grace of the L-rd Jesus Christ, and the love of G-d, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.”

I pray all is well with you. I have some prayer requests for you to pass on to your prayer warriors.

SBMF Executive Board Member, Rabbi Mike Saffle will be undergoing a cardiac catheterization on Wednesday January 30, 2008. Please pray for a safe and healing procedure. We are praying for a healing that will amaze the doctors. Brother Mike is the leader of Shalom Adonai Messianic Baptist Fellowship in Wichita, KS. This brother and his wife Connie have been working with us the past two and a half years to build up the SBMF to be a real resource to the SBMF members, NAMB and SBC. Mike loves the Jewish people and is dedicated to Jewish evangelism. He works hard to build up the saints in his area to lead our Jewish kinsman to Yeshua, while teaching the Jewish roots of Christianity.

Chaplain Dan Lovin, NAMB coordinator for chaplains in Illinois has been diagnosed with a cancer that is called high grade myxofibrosarcoma. This was found in his left arm on January 17. He will be at Siteman Cancer Center in St Louis next week or the week after. Brother Dan is a dear friend and a true builder of the saints. He serves the L-rd from Mount Vernon, IL. He also serve the Illinois State Lodge of the FOP as Senior Chaplain. This dear brother teaches brothers and sisters how to be public safety chaplains and disaster relief chaplains. Please pray for brother Dan’s wife, Sue, as she watches her husband go through this experience.

Please lift up Pastor Richard Reeder, his wife Linda, Deacon Ricky Pelfrey, his wife Caroline, and the brothers and sisters of Watseka Baptist Church in your prayers. In the beginning of this month the community of Watseka was inundated by floodwaters from the Iroquois river. The church sustained severe damage and may be a total loss. Brother Don Jaggers house was destroyed by the floodwaters. Praise G-d for the brothers and sisters of the IBSA Disaster Relief group. They came to Watseka to help clean up the church and some of the neighbors homes. We also ask G-d to protect these brothers and sisters who leave their homes and jobs to help those in need. Please pray for revival and numerous salvations in the area of Watseka.

Please pray for SBMF Executive Board Member Rabbi Ken Alpren, Kol Dodi in Nashville TN, as he has been chosen to go to Israel with brother Bill Alexson, founder of Sportspower Ministries. This is a mission trip with several meetings with people like Prime Minister Olmert and other officials under the banner of promoting peace and good will through Sports. This will reach a nation of israeli youth and families with the gospel of yeshua our messiah. They will also meet with Messianic leaders who can help with follow up. Please pray for this trip to speak Yeshua to the Jewish people in Israel.

Please pray for these brothers and sisters.

The L-rd bless you, and watch over you; The L-rd make His face shine on you, and be gracious to you; The L-rd lift up His countenance on you, and give you peace. [Numbers 6:24-26]

Your brother in Yeshua, servant and fellow bond-servant in the L-rd.

Prayer Alert from Carlinville Southern (IL)

Prayer Request:

Please remember Carlinville Southern in your prayers. It all began with a simple prayer; "Father, please do in & through us the kind of things only you can do. Let your fire fall in such a way the undecided masses have something real to believe for Your glory alone. We want to look at Bible, then look at the church, and see the same thing. We ask you to do immeasurably more than all we can ask or imagine."

From that moment, we have grown from 90 to 450, etc... in a small non-growing community. 83% of those we have reached are un-churched or de-churched. Only 17% is by transfer growth. All of this in the midst of constant rumors, etc.

Currently, we are engaged with our city council in the re-zoning of a 60,000 sq ft former Walmart building. They are vowed to not allow us access. We recognize Eph 6:12. We have uncovered generations of the same "power and principality" control. People have come and gone over the years, but the operations have been the same; corruption, manipulation, rumors, deceitfulness, etc. Our battle really is with powers and principalities and rulers in high places.

As a church, we are more unified than ever. We are humble and surrendered. Our hearts are right and our motives are pure.

Pray for wisdom for us, and favor in our community. Ask God to give us extraordinary growth and life transformation as a way of demonstrating His power and majesty. Also, ask God to break the power of the long-standing "powers and principalities" that have had control and spiritual domination of this this community for generations.

Prayer Alert from FBC Paxton, IL

Brother Phil
I am a member of First Baptist Church SBC in Paxton IL.
I have a prayer request for Little 3 year old Caroline Barnett from around the Indianapolis, IN. area. Caroline was diagnosed with Moyamoya disease early in 2007 it is a rare, progressive cerebrovascular disorder caused by blocked arteries at the base of the brain in an area called the basal ganglia. After this diagnosis was made she developed seizures that at one point were uncontrollable because there are no medicines out there to control them at her age and with Moyamoya. After a long summer of hospital visits, trials, and testing the doctors were able to get control of her seizure. Then a set back happened a week before Thanksgiving Caroline developed blood clots in her brain.

One week later and after lots of people praying the blood clots went away. Just before Christmas the blood clots returned. Then this new set back has happened. Caroline was admitted to the hospital in Indianapolis (St. Vincent's Children's) today. She has been diagnosed with liver disease. The doctors are trying to determine what type of liver disease.

Currently, Caroline is pretty ill. She has been running a high fever now for about 5 days. She also has pneumonia. The good part is she is in the hospital and they can run the additional tests right there while Caroline gets the help she needs to get over the pneumonia. Please pray for strength for Diane Caroline's mommy – she is completely exhausted from being up most evenings. I pray that this is treatable through medication.
I don't know if the clots in her brain have gone away or not.

Please pass this email through your prayer chain and bring this matter before your church for corporate prayer this Sunday.

I know of this little girl only because her mother Diane was at a Christian woman's conference where she met an employee of Herff Jones in Indianapolis that brought the two of them together and they have formed a bond ever since. Anne sent the original email about Kiki to a co-worker of mine and was asked to pass it to any prayer warriors that she knew of at Herff Jones in Champaign. My wife and I have been praying for this family all summer and winter long. We had added her to our prayer chain back last summer and shared her story with FBC Paxton since then things were getting better. I was thinking about Caroline and talking about her to my co-worker when this email came across to us WOW! God new we needed an update and that we needed to pray for Caroline and her mommy. Again I urge you to pass this info around to any and everyone you know that is a prayer warrior.

In Christ's Love, Christopher Ratcliff

Annie Armstrong Week of Prayer Resources

The North American Missions Emphasis includes praying for missions (Week of Prayer, March 2-9), learning about missions (North American Mission Study), and giving to missions (Annie Armstrong Easter Offering®, national goal: $61 million). As you participate and lead people to pray, learn, and give during this emphasis, consider ways you are personally living with urgency and seizing your divine moments to share the gospel with everyone.

Message from NAMB President Geoff Hammond

What does "living with urgency" look like?

Living in North America, surrounded by 250 million lost souls, this might be the most important question we as Southern Baptists can ask.

I believe there is no greater picture of "living with urgency" than your more than 5,000 North American missionaries. They understand what we must understand: the Lord gives every believer opportunities to share – I call them divine moments – and those opportunities are right here and right now.

As you participate in this North American Missions Emphasis, I urge you to do more than just watch and listen. As God's Word tells us, "Prove yourselves doers of the Word and not merely hearers" —James 1:22 (NASB).

Your divine moment may be closer than you think. Please pray for North American missions. Please give to North American missions through the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering. And please continue to be on mission in your mission field.

A lost world demands nothing less.

Live with urgency.

IBSA @ Prayer ~ Crisis @ Watseka Baptist Church

UPDATE ~

Shalom beloved. The grace of the L-rd Jesus Christ, and the love of G-d, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all. [2 Corinthians 13:14 NASU]

I just found out that Watseka Illinois is under water again. The storms that left 14" of snow North and West of Chicago caused flooding in the areas of North Central Illinois. Our brother Pastor Richard Reeder told me tonight that Watseka Baptist Church is under water again. At this point the basement is flooded. Numerous residents of the flooded areas of town have been evacuated for the second time in a month. Boats were needed to get people out of their homes.

Brother Richard and I prayed tonight and we asked the L-rd to send revival to Watseka during this time of tribulation and loss. We prayed for open hearts and minds to the Gospel message. We prayed for those who lost loved ones in the tornado-ravaged areas of the south.

Please pray for those who have suffered loss. Please pray for the spirits of the saints to be lifted yo by the supply of the L-rd.

Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing. [1st Thessalonians 5:11]

By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. [John 13:35]

If you would like to call and encourage brother Richard, please call him at 815-432-3796.

The L-rd bless you, and watch over you; The L-rd make His face shine on you, and be gracious to you; The L-rd lift up His countenance on you, and give you peace. [Numbers 6:24-26]

Your brother in Yeshua, servant and fellow bond-servant in the L-rd.

Shalom. The grace of the L-rd Jesus Christ, and the love of G-d, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all. [2 Corinthians 13:14]

I pray all is well with you. This is an urgent prayer request for a small SBC church in Watseka Illinois.

And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it. [1 Corinthians 12:25-26]

We are asking you to pray and help if possible.

And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive. [Matthew 21:22]

Today I received an urgent prayer request from Pastor Richard Reeder Sr. of Watseka Baptist Church in Watseka Illinois.

Watseka Baptist Church is a small Southern Baptist Church that is working the good work of bringing the good news of Jesus Christ in the Three Rivers Baptist Association. This church is very limited in resources and is made up of mostly senior citizens who have limited physical abilities.

If you haven’t seen the news about the flooding in North Central Illinois, you need to know about one of the several SBC churches that are in severe tribulation. Watseka Baptist Church is in the flood area. The water is rising up around the raised basement wall. The floor of the church building sits about three feet above ground level. The flood water is up about twenty inches from the ground and the flood has not yet crested. The basement of the church is flooded and the water is over the bottom of the ground floor door.

Watseka Baptist Church is a small congregation who has not been able to afford flood insurance. The members are devastated as their church is being damaged as well as their homes. The flood has obstructed anyone from going to the church to sandbag or take other protective measures.

On top of this sister Linda Reeder has been in and out of the hospital with a life threatening illness.

Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it. [John 14:13-14]

As soon as we hear from our other sister churches in the flooded areas, we will let you know.

Your brothers and sisters need your help. Please pass this on to your prayer teams. Please pray about how we as members of the Body can help those beloved who are in trouble.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

The L-rd bless you, and watch over you; The L-rd make His face shine on you, and be gracious to you; The L-rd lift up His countenance on you, and give you peace. [Numbers 6:24-26]
